Ann Swigart has been dancing for over 30 years and performing around the San Francisco Bay Area for over 15 years. She came to dance rather late, during college, and was quickly fascinated by the intersection of physicality, emotion, and intellect that is unique to the art form.
Ann believes in the inherent power, beauty, and expressiveness of the human body in even its smallest and most mundane movements. Her choreography explores the conundrums and conflicts of being human, often crossing back and forth along the line between everyday movements and more formal dance vocabulary. Her choreographic process allows the expression of the emotions and ideas of a particular dance to emerge gradually from the body, always attempting to tap into the natural and pre-verbal wisdom and experience already there.
Ann is also a musician and composer and incorporates these other skills and passions into several of her dance works.
